The Bv 246 “Hagelkorn” (“hailstone”) unpowered glider bomb was used to test different types of terminal guidance. It was a remotely-controlled missile, with metallic fuselage and tail unit. Wings were of flexible die-cast concrete, and were drawn under the launcher plane, acting like springs in the launching sequence. The missile had a span of 6.4 mts, a length of 3.56 mts, and a height of 0.65 mts. The launch weight was 730 Kgs and the speed at target was 450 Km/h. The warhead weight was 435 Kgs. When the launcher plane was a Fw 190, the bomb was fitted under the ETC 501 rack. This missile was tested in many Fw 190 types. The first was an A-5 version, Wr. Nr. 151282 (marked VL+FG). It was know as Fw 190 A-5/U-15. Later, A-8 and F-8 version were used for testing purposes at Karlshagen during 1944. It is known that the Fw 190 F-8 Wr.Nr. 130975 was used as test bed of this missile. Heinkel He 111 H-6 bomber was used as launcher plane also.
