The Messerschmitt P 1108 was a series of project for a long-range bomber; designed by Dipl-Ings. Seifert and Konrad, included flying wings and more conventionally configured machines. The P 1108/I was one of these last ones, featuring swept-back wings with a span of 19.80 mts and a fuselage of circular section with a total length of 18.20 mts. The four Heinkel HeS 109-011 turbojets were housed in box-like nacelles beneath the wings and projected beyond the trailing-edges as engine gondolas. The two man crew sat in a tandem arrangement in the nose of the aircraft. A tricycle landing gear arrangement was designed, with the main wheels retracting into the fuselage. Of particular note is the V-tail, used here for the first time in this project series. Incorporating the most modern aerodynamic features, this project was intended for civil use after the successful conclusion of the war; flying passenger and freight services on the Frankfurt am Main-New York in a time of some six to seven hours.
